What is external wall insulation?
Most people know about cavity wall insulation, but not everyone is aware of external wall insulation. As the name implies, it’s a layer of insulation that’s applied to an existing external wall which, once in place, is highly effective.
Here at Plasterend, we’re experts in our field with more than 30 years of experience. Not only will we provide your property with enhanced insulation, we’ll apply it sympathetically, in a way that will enhance the look of your property.
The advantages of external wall insulation (EWI)
EWI creates a ‘tea cosy’ effect by optimising thermal efficiency, leading to reduced carbon emissions. It also takes into account a building’s heat-loss weak points. This is because EWI provides a consistent ‘envelope’ around a property, ensuring that areas which are particularly vulnerable to the cold are properly insulated.
Once EWI is applied, you’ll quickly notice the difference; there are many positive effects including:
- Reduced heat loss equating to lower energy bills – by as much as 40% in some cases
- Fewer drafts meaning greater comfort within the home
- Improved weatherproofing
- Reduced risk of condensation and damp on interior walls
- Reduced exterior noise levels
- The life expectancy of a treated wall is longer than that of an untreated wall
- Internal dimensions remain exactly the same
EWI is extremely effective all year round. During the winter, its presence ensures that internally generated heat stays inside, where it’s most required. During the summer, it deflects the sun’s rays away from a property, preventing a home from becoming uncomfortably warm inside.
