What is external wall insulation?

Most people know about cavity wall insulation, but not everyone is aware of external wall insulation. As the name implies, it’s a layer of insulation that’s applied to an existing external wall which, once in place, is highly effective.

The advantages of external wall insulation (EWI)

EWI creates a ‘tea cosy’ effect by optimising thermal efficiency, leading to reduced carbon emissions. It also takes into account a building’s heat-loss weak points. This is because EWI provides a consistent ‘envelope’ around a property, ensuring that areas which are particularly vulnerable to the cold are properly insulated.
